Do You Have Zappe Fever? Patriots Fans Weigh In On Quarterback Debate

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Some New England Patriots fans are staying loyal to quarterback Mac Jones, even after two good starts from rookie Bailey Zappe.

Zappe earned a victory in his first game starting as quarterback with the Patriots in a 29 to 0 victory over the Detroit Lions. He continued to impress fans when he guided the team to their second straight win, beating the Cleveland Browns 38 to 15 on Sunday.

Some Mac Jones fans have mixed feelings about the rookie's success since Jones has been out with a high ankle sprain injury. Quarterback Brian Hoyer started in Jones' place against Green Bay, but walked away injured leaving Zappe to start in his place, during his third NFL game.

WBZ's Chris Fama asked Patriot fans their thoughts on who the starter should be and received overwhelming support for Jones.

"If Mac is one hundred percent healthy he has to start, cause he earned it from last year, I mean he's a stud, he's our face, he's our future, that's who we want to support," one fan told WBZ's Chris Fama.

When asked on Friday if Mac Jones is healthy enough to start again, Head coach Bill Belichick said, "We'll see."

"They have scaled back the offense with Zappe in there, but maybe that's what they should do with Mac, maybe it should be a simpler offense," one fan said, "I do not have Zappe fever, I think he is going to be a good player, but I don't have the fever."

One young fan had other thoughts after seeing his abilities on the field with four touchdown passes and one interception... and a signature.

"Bailey Zappe," he said, "Well Mac Jones doesn't listen to Bill Belichick and Bailey Zappe does, I even got a signature from him so he must be like a really good person... I have Zappe fever."

While Belichick didn't give a straight answer if Jones' will be playing for week six, he did say the fan favorite is making good improvement.
