CARVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Put on your best costume, grab a giant turkey leg, and watch the King’s knights battle on horseback at King Richard's Faire. The New England Renaissance Festival's 41st season runs through October 23rd, giving festival-goers a chance to escape reality and spend a day full of magic and merriment.

WBZ's Matt Shearer was there in costume... as a giant cookie with a microphone.

Matt spoke to some event-goers dressed in a large variety of customs, ranging from fairies and dragons to unicycling unicorns. He even met one goblin wearing a Carhartt jacket and a man who described his character's name as "Just Chris."

The first weekend of the festival featured a jousting tournament, fire eaters, acrobats, aerialists, and a medieval wedding. Festival-goers gathered to watch Jack the Whipper present his talent to the King. At this year's celebration, dogs even presented their talents as two new dog shows were brought to the festival to give talented canines a chance to show off their skills.

Artisans sold handspun pottery, jewelry, armor, and in period clothing to those who were in need of a costume. Attendees watched sword making and glass blowing while getting told their fortunes with psychic readings.
