BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One non-profit group is making sure no Brockton veteran is going forgotten this holiday season.

The "Just Checking In" foundation put on its seventh annual "Operation Wreaths for Veterans" on Saturday to remember those who have served. Volunteers gathered at Melrose Cemetery Saturday morning to put wreaths on veterans' graves and take a look back at their lives.

One of the first wreaths of the day was placed on Harold R. Tower's grave, a World War II veteran that died on Christmas Day in 1966.

"You read the name to yourself, you place it in front of them, and you make a reflection," Mary Waldron, co-founder of Just Checking In told WBZ's Suzanne Sausville. "We're telling veterans who are here in this immediate circle but all throughout the cemetery that they're not forgotten and Just Checking In wants to make sure that we're just checking in with them."

Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan was at the event, honoring his city's veterans.

"Just great Brockton people coming together during the holiday season because we will never forget the veterans, we will not be able to have the wonderful commonwealth and country and City of Champions in Brockton without the men and women that have served," Mayor Sullivan said.

He says it is important to take a moment and remember the city's veterans as our lives get busier.
