CONCORD, New Hampshire. (WBZ NewsRadio) — In New Hampshire, scuba divers could be able to catch their own lobsters and help keep the waters clean. A New Hampshire House committee has voted to move forward with a proposed bill to allow recreational scuba divers the ability to catch their own lobsters.

The proposal would allow 100 scuba divers to get recreational lobster licensees on a first- come first served basis. Those with a license would then be able to catch up to three of their own lobsters a day.

An amendment to the bill also would also allow scuba divers to be able to clean up forgotten lobster traps. Supporters said this would help to clean up the New Hampshire coast.

Some in the lobster industry are against the bill with concerns that it could negatively impact the commercial lobster business. Those in favor of the proposal dispute this, saying the number of lobsters caught would be so low it would not have any effect on commercial fishermen.
