WELLESLEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Who said dogs can't be published authors?

Pippi, a black lab from Wellesley, is out with her new book "Pippi Rocks" (with the help of her owner Gig Babson) about her adventures around Dogtown, Gloucester.

Pippi's latest book is about the Babson Boulders, giant rocks inscribed with sayings like "Help Mother," "Work," "Use Your Head," "Prosperity Follows Service," etc. The inscriptions were added to the rocks during the great depression when Roger Babson, a relative of Gig, hired unemployed stone masons.

Gig and Pippi picked their favorite rocks and mottos and began writing about how each one relates to the mischief Pippi has gotten herself into.

"We decided that we would write this book about Pippi going into Dogtown and finding the various boulders and she continued to dictate her old stories to me and each story illustrated sentiment on one of the boulders," said Gig.

Under "Help Mother" the book tells the story of when Pippi was a puppy and sat in the dishwasher licking the plates.

Gig told WBZ's Emma Friedman it all started with a blog. Pippi was a puppy during the pandemic when she made her way into Gig's life.

"I got her a month before everything closed down so we went up to my house in the White Mountains and we were just there by ourselves and Pippi started to post on my Facebook," Gig said. "She would talk about all the adventures she had, all the mischief she got into, eating shoes, rolling toilet paper down the stairs, digging holes, practically everything."

The two decided to put pen to paper and turn their blogs into a book.

They gave the book, "Tails with Gig" to friends and family and brought a few copies to Wellesley Books where the book took off.

"Pippi's first book was the best seller at Wellesley Books over the holiday season," Gig said.

After her first book was a success, Pippi started handing out dog biscuits around town, doing paw signings, and reading (with Gig's help) at local libraries and schools.

Net proceeds from the book are going to Boston's Angell Animal Medical Center.

The book is available at Wellesley Books, The Bookstore of Gloucester, and can be found online.
