1 Man Killed, 2 Teens Injured In Mission Hill Shooting

ROXBURY (WBZ-AM) -- One 20-year-old man was killed and two 17-year-olds were wounded in a shooting on Mission Hill Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. near the corner of Tremont and Parker Streets.

Police were already at the nearby Tobin Community Center--which was filled with young people at the time--responding to a disturbance when shots rang out.

Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans said the officers were there to respond to a disturbance at a basketball game.

"I think someone had heard some type of arguing and disturbing, they had called us, and while the officers were outside dealing with that, right down the street they heard the gunshots," he said.

One witness said they heard three gunshots.

The responding officers found three young men suffering from gunshot wounds. All were taken to area hospitals, and the 20-year-old, who has not yet been identified, later died.

"Too many guns in the hands of too many young kids is the issue," Evans said. "It's sad that these young kids want to shoot at each other.

Evans said he was on the phone with Mayor Marty Walsh all night, and planned to meet with him Thursday.

"That's been our biggest priority since we've come on board, stopping this senseless violence every day," he said.

No arrests have been made, and Evans said the department is asking the public to contact them with any information.

The commissioner also criticized Congress for making the gun situation worse, not better.

"It troubles me, yesterday in Washington, the Congress, the House passed this concealed carry reciprocity law, which allows anyone who has a permit in any state to carry a concealed gun to go anywhere in the country," he said. "It seems like Washington's making it easy to get guns. We have this senseless tragedy going on every day in America, so we gotta all work to get the guns off the street."
