BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Last Saturday, The Malenfant family from Westfield, Maine made it to Boston's North Station following their 19-year-old daughter's Kori brain surgery in New York -- but they missed their connecting train home to Portland by five minutes.

The family asked two police officers where they could stay while to keep warm as  they waited for the next train for two hours -- but instead they got a heartwarming surprise from Boston Police Captain Kelley McCormick:

They assumed McCormick was going to drive them around in his unmarked SUV until their next train departed got an emotional surprise as they drove on I-95 in Lynnfield heading north towards Maine.

He said their daughter wasn't going to sit in the cold post-surgery, so he drove them home to Maine.

Wendi Malenfant, the mother of the family says when they finished the 112 mile roadtrip, she was so blown away by his goodness, she gave Captain McCormick a hug.

"We were all shocked...we were really thankful," Wendi said.

Later Kori took to facebook to share her story and thank McCormick publicly.

Her mother says that Kori wanted to this story "She wanted to share about his kindness and the kind of kindness that police officers do," she said.
