Walsh Seeking Price Hike On Parking Tickets

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) --  If you’re a driver in Boston, that orange ticket on your windshield may someday come with a heftier fee --  Mayor Walsh is pushing for the hike.

The mayor’s budget plan for the next fiscal year includes proposals meant to alleviate the congestion in the city by improving bike lanes, sidewalks, and traffic signals.

But those plans come with a cost. He believes increasing parking fees would raise 5 million dollars for the new transportation strategy.

He says the idea is to encourage the use of public transportation and reduce the number of cars on the road. The plan still requires the city council’s approval.

WBZ NewsRadio1030’s Bernice Corpuz reports.
