BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Two teams in Major League Baseball have five wins--the defending World Series champion Astros, and the club managed by Houston's former bench coach.
That's right, Alex Cora has his Red Sox off to a 5-1 start with last night's 4-2 13-inning survival in Miami to finish a two-game sweep of the Marlins.
"We stole that one, honestly," Cora said. "We need to get better in a few aspects of the game, as we all know. But for them to keep grinding and putting good at-bats--it seems like the at-bats were getting better the later the game--the energy level was there. I know it's early, but it's better 5-1 than 4-2."
Boston holds a one-game lead on Toronto in the East, though there's obviously around a zillion games left in the regular season.
Sox are off today, but they're finally out of Florida after a 50-day stint that dates back to the start of spring training. Of course, they brought a little something back from the Sunshine State.
The 1-and-4 Rays
Red Sox and Rays will open a three-game set tomorrow afternoon at Fenway.
Tampa Bay's lost four straight since getting to Boston's bullpen Opening Day down south. Sox have already taken three of four meetings in the season-series.
