WBZ Business Breakfast: Artificial Intelligence The Wave of The Future

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Though to some of us it may seem like new technology, artificial intelligence or A.A, has been around – being worked on for more than 50 years.

This was the main part of the discussion at the WBZ's Business Breakfast was held Friday hosted by WBZ NewsRadio1030’s Josh Binswanger.

A group of experts in 'a.i' talked about where we are, where we're going and potential security and other issues.

It’s not all self driving cars and walking around robots.

Jerome Dubois, is co-founder of 6 river systems they have a mobile robot, named ‘Chuck’ that can work in warehouses.

He says it helps solve a problem of labor shortages.

“To our customers, our retailers and third party logistical companies that are struggling to find people to fill these jobs, we’re helping them get more out of the labor force that they currently have today.,” Dubois said.

And Dubois adds for his piece of artificial intelligence its not about replacing humans. He says that  as far as the technology right now it far more practical to enhance human interaction that to replace it.

Dr. Sophie Vandebroek Chief Operating Officer of IBM Research talked about those concerns as one of the pillars of A.I. which includes, what she calls prosperity for humanity.

“Making sure that AI algorithms and systems are less biased and making sure privacy is super secure.” She said.

Michael Ellenbohghen with Evolv technology says machine learning algorithms do have a way to go.

“I hope at some point these algorithms and everything else  become much smarter so we can make our systems safer and easier to use.” Ellenboghen said.

The panelists also talked about regulations attached to artificial intelligence and making that in certain technologies, like in health care...that such systems can be protected from hackers,.
