BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Speaking on WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Nightside with Dan Rea Wednesday night, Mayor Marty Walsh said he was 'surprised' by the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to legalize sports betting.
"I'm a little surprised that the vote happened, because it's always been limited, as you said earlier, to Las Vegas," he said. "I never would have imagined sports betting would be happening in states across America."
He said he thinks Massachusetts will have no choice but to get on board with sports betting, because other states will do it, too.
Walsh said he hasn't really decided where he stands on the issue.
"I have not had any formal conversations yet with anyone from the state, the governor, speaker, or senate president," he said. "It'll be interesting to see what happens and how the taxation on it works and things like that."
The mayor also said that, with the casino opening soon in Everett, he's wondering how sports gambling might influence operations there.
