BROOKLINE (WBZ-AM) -- A restaurant owner was arraigned Friday in Brookline District Court on charges that he videotaped customers in the bathroom of his establishment.
Investigators say Tze Ping Chung, 63 of Weston, was secretly videotaping patrons in the restroom of Taam China in Brookline. His bail was set at $7,500.
Chung was already out on $100,000 bail on charges out of Middlesex District Court that he raped a child known to him multiple times dating back six years. The Middlesex DA's office said that victim also allegedly found images on Chung's phone of her in the bathroom over the course of three years.
He was arraigned on those charges May 8, and was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet.
The new charges arose, according to the prosecutor, after investigators in that case found images of women in a restroom on his cell phone and iPad.
"The detectives discovered what looked like secret recordings of numerous women in various states of undress using the toilet in what they believed was a restaurant bathroom which Chung owns," the prosecutor said. "They confirmed that still images were captured from Chung's video devices, that the restroom in question was in fact the large restroom at the back of Taam China's dining room."
He's owned that restaurant for years. Chung's attorney called him a fixture in the community.
Chung is due back in court on the child rape charges July 19.
