Skateboarders Arrested After Dark Despite New Lighting

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Two skateboarders were charged with trespassing and arrested in Cambridge over the weekend for skating after dark, but there are questions as to whether or not they were actually breaking any rules at the Lynch Family Skatepark.

State Police say the skateboarders broke the law because, on the Department of Conservation & Recreation website, the park's closing time is listed as dusk. Lights were apparently installed at the park last week.

"Th lights were on for a reason - so that we could skate," said one boarder. "We probably had an hour left before the lights went off and then we all probably would have all went home.

In the video posted to social media, a police officer is seen throwing one of the skateboarders to the ground as people repeatedly yell "Let him go!"

The trespassing charge was dropped against one of the skateboarders, and the other was released on personal recognizance.

DCR reps told WBZ NewsRadio's Carl Stevens that in the next day or two, signs will be installed at Lynch Family Skate Park indicating that the park closes at 9 pm, but until then the park still closes at dusk.
