WBZ-AM Supports WRKO's DAV Radiothon

WBZ NewsRadio 1030 joined forces Friday with our sister station, WRKO-AM, to help raise $207,456 for the Disabled American Veterans of Massachusetts.

WRKO's DAV Radiothon raised more than double the cash raised in last year's event.

One of the veterans on site for today's fundraising was 92 year old Army vet Lou Pasquale. He served in World War II as a Private First Class, with the California outfit of the 7th Division. He spoke with WBZ's Laurie Kirby about his time in the Pacific, his life after discharge, and how his family has pulled together to help other veterans:

Also in the newsroom today - Navy vet Nancy Ross spoke with WBZ's Nichole Davis about her journey with the DAV. She was one of the first women to serve in her squadron, and after she was assaulted, she embarked on a decades-long struggle with substance abuse. She says the DAV came into her life at a critical time, and she's now using the lessons she's learned to help others:

DAV is a non-profit that assists veterans and their families with the transition back to civilian life. They so do by assisting with access to physical and mental health care, transportation, as well as other benefits available that vets may not have been aware of. DAV is not affiliated with the government, and doesn't receive any sort of government funding. Learn more here.

If you'd like to donate to DAV of Massachusetts, you can find information on how to do so here.
