Guatemalan Man Sought In Massacre Faces Immigration Charge

BOSTON (AP) — A Guatemalan man wanted for his role in a massacre of indigenous Guatemalans in the 1980s is being sentenced for illegal reentry into the U.S.

Francisco Cuxum Alvarado is slated to be sentenced Friday in Boston federal court. He pleaded guilty to the charge in September.

The 64-year-old was found in Waltham, Massachusetts in April after previously entering the country illegally in 2004 .

Prosecutors say Cuxum Alvarado has been charged with crimes against humanity by the Guatemalan government. They say he was a member of a civil militia that helped government forces violently remove Maya Achi people.
