"Special Thanks" To A Dog In Westborough Who Alerted Neighbor To House Fire

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A dog is being credited with helping save a neighbor from a house fire that started overnight in Westborough.

Fire officials said the dog woke up its owner by barking excessively on Monday morning after the nearby fire broke out.

Westborough Fire Department said the owner woke up and saw a fire through the woods at a neighbor's house on Hundreds Road, and walked over to alert the resident inside.

The blaze started on the deck and it had spread into the main part of the house by the time Westborough Firefighters arrived, but they were able to knock it down quickly, limiting the damage to the outside of the house.

The one resident inside at the time was able to escape without any injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
