Animal Sanctuary In Norton Provides Relief

NORTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Winslow Farm Animal Sanctuary is a 17-acre safe haven for over 200 abused and unwanted animals.

Deborah White inherited the property and opened the sanctuary in honor of her father, who died of Parkinson's.

"I was his hands growing up, so I was by his side forever and ever," White said. "That always stayed with me and on his behalf I built the farm."

White started the farm 25 years ago, rescuing animals from being slaughtered.

"They were very mistreated, disrespected, and that really bothered me," White said. "I needed to do something."

Last year, White rescued over 100 roosters in Plymouth. They were kept outside in tight cages, which caused many of them to lose their toes.

White has a solution to help the birds, however.

"I've contacted engineers and we're having orthotic feet made for them," White said.

According to White, her work at the sanctuary is a labor of love.

"Nature is very important to me, very spiritual, God gave us so many things to be thankful for," White said.
