BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – A dog that was found abandoned in a park in Avon is now ready to find his forever home after more than a month of rehabilitation.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) found Cosmo along with another Pitbull-type dog named Yennifer abandoned at D.W. Field Park in Avon in late December 2021.

Cosmo was found emaciated and extremely malnourished almost to the point of starvation. Weighing only 50 pounds, the one-year-old pup also had overgrown nails, numerous abrasions and was incredibly scared when ARL staff found him. However, the shelter said Cosmo remained friendly.

After being treated at the ARL’s Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center, Cosmo had been recovering at a Cape Cod foster home and was placed on a re-feeding plan. The ARL said he has gained nearly 20 pounds over the past month and is ready to be put up for adoption from their Brewster location. Yennifer was recently adopted from ARL’s Dedham location.

ARL Law Enforcement and the Avon Police Department continue to jointly investigate this case of cruelty and abandonment. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact ARL Law Enforcement at (617) 426-9170 x110, or email.
