HARVARD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Vermont State Police say they have shot and killed the ex-boyfriend of a missing Harvard woman found dead in Vermont. Mary Anderson was discovered dead in a truck in Brattleboro, Vermont on Tuesday, after going missing over the weekend.

Anderson was last seen alive on Saturday at 10:30 PM, and was confirmed dead by police on Tuesday afternoon. State Police then began to search for Matthew Davis, 34, of Fitchburg.

Vermont State Police had called Davis a "person of interest" in the case before his death, but he was never officially declared a suspect.

Officials said two troopers and a Brattleboro Police officer opened fire on Davis after an "encounter" with him in the woods in West Brattleboro — they're still looking at exactly what happened in the shooting.

Sheila Anderson, Mary's mother, told WBZ-TV that the worst part of her daughter's death was that "She was alone...She wasn't with her mom and siblings." She called Mary a "beautiful daughter." Anderson's friends and family told the station that there were a string of suspicious posts on Mary's social media channels in the few days before her body was discovered.

An autopsy on both Mary Anderson and Matthew Davis are scheduled for Wednesday.
