BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A heated confrontation broke out Monday outside a West Roxbury courthouse, when a neo-Nazi group once again clashed with a group of counter-protesters in Boston.
Chanting "Nazis out, Nazis out," anti-fascist protesters came head to head with the same white supremacist group that targeted a drag queen story hour in Jamaica Plain over the weekend.
As members of the National Social Club (NSC-131) entered the courthouse, the altercation turned physical.
One of the counter-protesters took a dive after coming into contact with a neo-Nazi rallier. The same counter-protester fell down the courthouse stairs outside after a struggle with Boston Police, and he was later detained.
After the incident in Jamaica Plain on Saturday, Boston City Councilor Kendra Lara now says charges have been dropped against two of three people arrested on-scene, both counter-protesters. She spoke on the repeat demonstrations by the neo-Nazi group.
"This group's presence and existence is ultimately to stand against the existence of queer folks, to stand against the existence of Jewish people, to stand against the existence of Black folks," Councilor Lara said. "Their presence in this neighborhood is violent."
State officials have announced they'll seek charges against Christopher Hood, the founder of NSC-131, who was also arrested in Jamaica Plain.
Suffolk County D.A. Kevin Hayden has announced he's adding two positions to prosecute civil rights cases, reacting to white supremacist demonstrations in Boston and anticipating more unrest during the upcoming election. He says Massachusetts has become a target destination for groups that spread hate.
