SALEM (WBZNewsRadio) - Just in time for the busiest month of the year, the city of Salem has released a traffic advisory for the month of October.

It's tough to find a place to park in the Witch City on a normal day and there's nothing normal about Salem in October, a month that is traditionally packed like a truck full of pumpkins with tourists.

In a statement, city officials say “Visitors to Salem in October should not plan to drive into downtown Salem, especially on weekends. Traffic is heavy and parking is severely limited. Plan to drive to a free satellite parking lot and ride the free shuttle, take the Salem Ferry, or ride the commuter rail."

There will be as per usual, a number of amazing Halloween themed events through out the month including a parade, 5k road race, and the Devil's Chase road race. Visitors and residents are asked to make sure to check the city's website for closures.

During every weekend in October, Essex Street from Hawthorne Boulevard to New Liberty Street and Essex Street from Barton Square to Washington Street will be closed to through traffic and no on-street parking will be allowed from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Access to the Museum Place Garage will be via Brown Street only.

There will also be No Parking postings on portions of Washington Square North and South during the weekends in October, reserved for authorized event vehicles.

When it comes to Halloween Monday, October 31st, there are currently road closures planned downtown. What's more, the city says there is a high likelihood that some closures will be made on Saturday and/or Sunday October 29 and October 30.
