Mulch Fire Spreads To Group Home In Maynard

MAYNARD (WBZNewsRadio) - A handful of residents at a group home in Maynard have been displaced after a fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials responded to a report of a bulk mulch fire outside the home on Second Street around 12:30 on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters found the mulch fire had extended to the home, with flames burning up the side of the side of the building and into the attic.

A 2nd alarm was struck and departments from neighboring Sudbury, Boxborough, Concord, Acton, Hudson, Stow and Wayland all provided mutual aid at the scene. Firefighters from both Lincoln and Wayland covered Maynard stations.

Strong winds and dry conditions over the last few days have increased the risk of fire in the area.

"Considering the dangerous fire conditions today and the amount of fire found on arrival, companies did a fantastic job of attacking this fire quickly and getting it knocked down." Said Fire Captain Mike Parr.

Thankfully no one was injured.
