PEABODY, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - In between football practice, an internship three days a week, and volunteering at Mass General two days a week, an 18-year-old from West Peabody is spending the summer before his senior year, giving back to his community.
Kevin Winschel created "Suds For Swings," offering car-washing and detailing services for both sedans and SUVs. What's more, he's donating 100-percent of the proceeds to give the playground behind Peabody's West Memorial Elementary School a modern, and inclusive makeover.
"My total goal, honestly it was $500... I got $500 on the first day of advertising on facebook." Winschel told WBZ's Shari Small.
Winschel charges $85 for sedans and $107 for SUV's and said he's completely booked for the summer.
"That's kind of the point for suds for swings, is I want to inspire other kids. I'm one kid who can raise $3,000 plus dollars, imagine what ten kids could do, imagine what a hundred kids can do." Winschel said.
On the "Suds For Swings" website, Winschel says while he didn't attend West Memorial Elementary, but "witnessing the community's need for assistance in raising funds, I felt a strong sense of duty to make a positive impact in any way possible."
"In today's rapidly evolving world driven by technology, the importance of children's social interactions and their ability to have screen-free fun is more crucial than ever." Winschel wrote on the Suds For Swings website. "That's why I took the initiative to establish Suds for Swings. Through this endeavor, I offer car cleaning, washing, and detailing services, donating 100% of my profits towards the improvement of the West Playground. I hold customer satisfaction in high regard and find great joy in beautifying my neighbors' vehicles."
