KEENE, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) - It's official. The National Weather Service (NWS) says a tornado touched down in the area of Keene, New Hampshire Thursday evening as severe weather blew through much of New England.

The EF 1 tornado hit the town of Dublin, just each of Keene. The NWS sent a survey team to Cheshire County to investigate the damage.

"The damage observed by the team to this point is consistent with an EF 1 tornado with maximum winds of 90-95 mph," the NWS wrote.

It's the first tornado to touch down in the Granite State this year, however New Hampshire saw two tornadoes in 2022.

“Yesterday’s tornado along with recent thunderstorms and flash flooding serve as a reminder to residents and visitors to be prepared,” said HSEM Director Robert Buxton. “Stay informed, have a plan, and make a kit. If a warning is issued in your area of the state, take action.”

This is a developing story.
