HOPKINTON, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - A man from Hopkinton is facing a slew of charges after leading police on a brief pursuit through the community.
The ordeal began on Wednesday morning, when a Police Sergeant was given the heads up by another Hopkinton officer that a motorcycle matching the description of a wanted vehicle, was traveling on West Main Street. Authorities said they'd be on the look out for this particular motorcycle for the last several months but have not successfully been able to stop the driver.
The Hopkinton Sergeant located the motorcycle and tried to stop the driver, who allegedly did not pull over. Instead, the operator, later identified as 28-year-old Robert Wills, took off. Officers followed Wills for about two miles, before he crashed near the intersection of Ash Street and Thayer Heights Road.
Thankfully no one was hurt in the collision.
Wills then took off on foot, running from authorities into a nearby yard. When Officers caught up with Wills in a yard on Ash Street, he told them he was armed. Police said Wills does possess a License to Carry in the state.
Wills is facing a number of charges including leaving the scene of the accident with property damage, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, and speeding, among others.
“I would like to commend our officers for their use of caution during this incident given the time of day and extra traffic in the area,” said Acting Chief Scott van Raalten. “The officers displayed great awareness and were able to safely take the suspect into custody.”
