UXBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — All of a sudden, Uxbridge is missing 85% of its school committee. The school superintendent in the small central Massachusetts town said six of the committee's seven members have resigned in "recent days."

Dr. Mike Baldassarre gave no reason for the resignations. He said he was hiring an independent investigator to look into the mass resignation. "First and foremost, this will ultimately have no impact on our students or staff," Baldassarre said.

As recently as April 26th — last week — the school committee was meeting as normal, discussing plans for the future and district financial business. A meeting set for May 5 is listed as "canceled" on the town schedule.

The only remaining school committee member listed on the committee website is Barry Desruisseaux.

A flyer on the school committee website dated May 3 urgently asks residents to volunteer because of an "immediate need NOW!"

WBZ NewsRadio has reached out to the town manager, the town clerk, and the superintendent's office for comment.
