BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A powerful tropical-like storm brought heavy rain and strong winds to Massachusetts and other parts of New England Monday.

The storm started to wind down early Monday afternoon, and was expected to continue on that path into the evening hours.

Meanwhile, the morning commute was a challenge for drivers because of poor visibility and the possibility of hydroplaning. "I can't even see out of the parking lot," said a South Shore commuter. And that's before his commute even started. "The roads are flooded, it's like a river down here. And I have to work outside today. The job site is going to be a mess."

Utility companies reported hundreds of thousands of power outages throughout Massachusetts, at one point topping 280,000, according to MEMA's power outage map.

The storm also caused hundreds of cancellations and delays at Boston Logan International Airport. Strong winds also forced multiple ground stops at the airport.
