WARWICK, R.I. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Warwick Police and Fire Department along with the Coast Guard have recovered the body of the missing 11-year-old girl who went missing in Narragansett Bay.
While authorities have not identified the body, “all signs point to the little girl,” Warwick fire Batallion Chief Bill Wilson said.
The body was found in the water around 12:45 p.m. on Monday, according to Wilson.
The girl and another adult swimmer went missing off of Conimicut Point in Warwick on Saturday, Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi said.
Police got the call at around 3:00 PM Saturday. Two other swimmers were pulled from the water yesterday and transported to the hospital, the mayor said.
“Reports are that the adult male did not know the other victim, he lost his life trying to save the child,” Picozzi wrote. “He was a hero.”
There are no signs or lifeguards to warn beachgoers about potential rip currents.
“People walk out there and do not realize just how fast the tide comes in and can sweep them away. The current is very, very strong here,” Warwick Fire Chief Peter McMichael said.
