BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Acting Mayor Kim Janey got her COVID-19 vaccine at the Roxbury YMCA on Friday. The mayor qualified to get vaccinated because of volunteer work at vaccination clinics.
“I’m choosing to get the shot because vaccination is an important tool to protect ourselves, to protect our communities, and all those that we love and to help stop the pandemic,” Janey said. “Vaccination is at the top of our COVID-19 agenda.”
Mayor Janey also announced the city will implement a $1.5 million Vaccine Equity Grant Initiative with money being awarded to non-profits that have until the end of the month to apply.

“We will continue to make progress by implementing proven strategies and new approaches. New approaches require new ideas," Janey said. The initiative is one of the new approaches.
"We know that people of color are more likely to get COVID-19, and if they do, they are more likely to die," Janey said. "That means addressing the needs of the entire city as we target those that are hardest hit by the public health crisis.”
