BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu says the city will be looking at its infrastructure after a falling light pole injured a woman on the Evelyn Moakley Bride on Tuesday.

The woman was seriously injured when the light pole fell on Tuesday afternoon, and was brought to a hospital. Boston City Hall took down 23 light poles in response to the incident.

"What happened on the Moakley Bridge is absolutely unacceptable," Wu said at a press conference. "We are a city that's nearly 400 years old, so we're doing a deep dive to ensure that all that infrastructure is safe, secure, and keeps our city beautiful, but is sound for everyone," she said.

Some people in the city had complaints about the shoddy condition of the light poles for at least about a year, and as far back as 2017 according to the WBZ-TV I-Team. The station says the state inspected the poles this year, and called for repairs as soon as possible. The city had received complaints about rusted light poles on the Moakley Bridge as recently as August.
