BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — COVID-19 patients are now being flown to other states across New England as hospitalizations continue to rise throughout the Commonwealth.
Over the span of the pandemic, the non-profit emergency service Boston MedFlight has transported 1,200 potential and confirmed COVID-19 patients. But, because bed space is becoming more limited they have started flying patients to other states including New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
Chief Operating Officer Andrew Farkas said all hospitals are suffering because of this lack of bed resources, and that includes critical care and intensive care units.
“They’re still taking care of all the other patients that they have to take care of, so resources have been very tight,” Farkas said.
Farkas strongly urged people to be safe and take all coronavirus guidelines seriously. He said one of the biggest challenges is not being able to let family or friends visit their loved ones while they are being treated.
