WATERTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Even when shopping for a good cause, the Bruins can't resist a little healthy competition.

"We’re all athletes, we’re all competitive," forward Charlie Coyle told WBZ NewsRadio. "I’m way behind here, as you can tell, but I’m on my way here."

Coyle and his teammates participated in the team's annual holiday top shopping event at the Target in Watertown on Wednesday morning.

Players went up and down store aisles collecting toys for children in local hospitals who are unable to celebrate the holidays at home. All of the toys were purchased through donations from Bruins players and the Boston Bruins Foundation.

"I got another cart on the way, I'm ready to go," said goalie Jeremy Swayman. "I went to the sweet spot, which was the Bruins section, and I loaded up on every Bruins item I could possibly find."

While newer Bruins players might have panicked in the rush to fill their carts, toy shopping veteran Jake DeBrusk stayed calm, cool, and collected.

"This is my seventh time here at this exact Target, so I know where things are," DeBrusk said. "I’m a veteran on this, so I go for the areas which eventually get swarmed, but yeah, there are some guys who are fast on the hop this year, so I’m trying to fill this list out a little more than usual, to be honest with you."

As for what is on the left winger's holiday wish list...

"30 goals is still on the wish list, I would say," DeBrusk answered. "Maybe a hat trick actually, I’ll ask from Santa this year."
