New CapeFlyer Stop Lets Passengers Skip Bridge Traffic

BOURNE (WBZ NewsRadio) — The CapeFlyer train, which takes passengers from Boston to Hyannis, has a new stop that's saving passengers from the headaches of Bourne Bridge traffic woes.

Thomas Care, Adminstrator of the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, told WBZ NewsRadio's Jim MacKay that riders previously had to get off at Buzzard's Bay and take a bus over the busy bridge.

"People are ecstatic, because now they don't have to get onto the bridge and back into the traffic," Care said.

Care said the service typically wants to limit stops for a quicker trip—but some don't mind if the ride takes a little longer.

"People don't seem to mind, because we have a concession car, and beer and wine is served, and it's a lot of millennials," he said. "They say that, boy, this is great, we don't care if this train takes three, four, five hours."

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the CapeFlyer leaves from Boston's South Station with stops in Braintree, Brockton, Middleboro, Wareham, Buzzard's Bay, and now, the Bourne side of the Cape Cod Canal.

It's $20 round-trip from South Station to Hyannis, and there are reduced rates on Sundays.

"It's intended to get people to the Cape without their car," Care said. "That's why we at the RTA have now created a system of buses that now go to all 15 Cape towns efficiently."

Care called the first two weeks of CapeFlyer service this year "wildly successful."
