Duxbury Police Recover $8,000 Resident Was Scammed Out Of

DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Duxbury Police Department is warning residents to be on alert after a resident was nearly scammed out of $8,000.

According to police, a resident received a call from someone pretending to be their grandson. The caller said they had been arrested and needed bail money.

The grandparent believed it was their grandson and sent the money via UPS to an address in another state. After doing that, the resident became suspicious and tried to request UPS to return the money.

However, the carrier said they could not guarantee stopping the shipment before it was delivered.

Duxbury police say they intervened and were able to stop the delivery.

Police secured the money and were able to return it to the resident. They are now reminding residents that scams like this are common and to be suspicious of anyone who demands money.
