DEDHAM, Mass. — Emanuel Lopes has been found guilty of murder in the 2018 shootings of a Weymouth police officer and bystander.

This concludes Lopes' second trial after 2023's mistrial centering around the defense's insanity plea.

As of Feb. 15, the jury was deadlocked, but it reached a verdict the next day.

Lopes shot and killed Weymouth Police Sgt. Michael Chesna while Chesna was trying to arrest him for vandalism and erratic driving.

He then shot and killed 77-year-old bystander Vera Adams in her home.

Lopes faces life in prison for first degree murder in Chesna's killing and second degree murder in Adams' killing.

This is a developing story.
