EVERETT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One week before the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers meet at Super Bowl LVIII, a furrier kind of football game took place in Everett.

Park-9 Dog Bar, New England's first full-service dog bar and indoor park, hosted its inaugural Park-9 Puppy Bowl on Saturday.

Two teams of pups clashed on the football field—actually a rug resembling the gridiron—for a chance to etch their names in four-legged history.

"We have one football toy, so essentially if one of the pups carries the football across the touchdown area of the rug, then we score that for a point," said co-owner Tess Kohanski.

The game was officiated by a Chocolate Labrador Retriever wearing a black and white referee shirt.

The event wasn't just about winning the most adorable football game ever; all of the players were available for adoption through Sweet Paws Rescue.

"I sent my husband a screenshot. I said, 'It says there are dogs that can go home that day.' He said no," said Andrea, who came to the game with Maverick, her Corgi.
