BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio)—Black Friday is normally a day for great deals and chaos, but experts are saying this year might be more of the latter.
Jon Hurst of the Retailers Association of Massachusetts told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe (@KimWBZ) that this year's Black Friday might look a little bit different than years prior. This is due to shortages in inventory as well as a lack of employees.
"Everyone has labor shortages, everyone has inventory shortages, and the inventory that you're getting in is at a much higher price," Hurst said.
Hurst said this means shoppers should lower their expectations for what they can get and the deals they can get for this Black Friday. Shoppers should expect longer lines, fewer deals, and a lot fewer available products than in years past. His advice to shoppers was to start their shopping before Black Friday.
In an effort to prepare shoppers for these issues, Hurst said stores and businesses should be alerting their customers about any potential issues they could face before the day after Thanksgiving.
"It seems like the goalposts keep changing, the challenges keep getting more and more severe," Hurst said. "We can only hope for a better 2022."
