BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former Boston City Councilor and mayoral candidate Andrea Campbell is running for Attorney General.
In a statement Wednesday morning, she said the post needs someone who will be an "advocate for fundamental change and progress."
Campbell is a Boston native and grew up in Roxbury, and said in her statement that she would be "an Attorney General for justice and opportunity for all -- no matter who you are, where you come from, or where you live.” The former City Councilor came in fourth in the Boston mayoral preliminary race last year.

“I’m living proof that a girl who grew up in public housing in Roxbury, with a family torn apart by incarceration and poverty, with support from a community that believed in me, could turn pain into purpose, and become Legal Counsel for the Governor of Massachusetts, be elected the first Black woman President of the Boston City Council, and today announce my candidacy for Attorney General of Massachusetts,” Campbell said.

Prior to her announcement, a recent poll from MassInc projected that Campbell would be at the top of the pack if she chose to run for the position. The poll found Campbell earning 31% of support from potential voters.
Campbell's first campaign stop was set to be in Worcester on Wednesday and she will later travel to Springfield for an event with Easthampton Mayor Nicole LaChapelle and other supporters.
