GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Gloucester Fire Department Fire Chief Eric Smith said that firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire early Monday morning.

First responders arrived at School Street and found that a two and a half-story wood frame house had smoke emanating out its side and rear. Officials say a second alarm was struck immediately from the severity of the conditions.

Fire crews brought the fire under control within a half hour of their arrival, Smith said.

The GFD said all occupants were able to evacuate the home, and that two firefighters and two occupants had to be transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Rockport Fire Departments all provided additional aid, the GFD said.
