Gov. Baker Vetoes Bill Expanding Abortion Access In Massachusetts

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gov. Baker vetoed a bill on Christmas Eve that would have expanded access to abortion rights in Massachusetts.

Baker said he supports a woman's right to choose, but in an effort to craft a compromise bill, he warned legislators he didn't support two key measures included in the legislation, known as the ROE Act.

Those two issues included one that would allow 16 year olds abortion access with out parental consent, and another that would have expand access to abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Massachusetts legislative leaders said they'll seek to override any Gubernatortial veto, since the act passed both chambers with enough votes to make that move.
