HAVERHILL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio)— A cemetery in Haverhill is offering a spooky way to start off the Halloween season this Saturday.

The Essex County Ghost Project is hosting a ghost hunt at the Hilldale Cemetery on Saturday for people looking to view the apparitions, vapors, and electronic voice phenomena that can be seen and heard there.

Tom Spitalere, the president of the Hilldale Cemetery Association and the founder of the Essex County Ghost Project, said October is a great time to go on a ghost hunt.

"October is a little bit spookier because the veil is thin," Spitalere said. "The veil is the energy levels around us, and it's really thin this year."

For Saturday's ghost hunt, Spitalere recommends any interested patrons should bring a camera, recording equipment, and extra batteries due to the spirits using the energy from the devices.

"My car stalled here the other night I had to get a jumpstart," Spitalere told WBZ's Kendall Buhl (@WBZKendall) as a warning about spirits draining batteries.

The event takes place on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Hillsdale Cemetery. Admission for the event is $15. Spitalere said all are welcome to the event, even skeptics, who he likes having attend the most—so he can prove them wrong.

WBZ's Kendall Buhl (@WBZKendall) has the story.
