Officials performed resuscitation efforts for about 40 minutes before crews ceased efforts because there was no sign of life.

Rescuers carried the hiker's body through winds that clocked in at around 50 miles per hour and temperatures in the forties to the nearest train.

A dog belonging to the deceased man found on the trail was sent to an animal shelter until it can be reunited with the owner's family.
