BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The number of Covid-19 vaccinations at the Hynes Convention Center is ramping up on Wednesday.
The mass vaccination site located in Boston’s Back Bay is expected to give out 7,000 doses per day compared to it's previous daily average of one thousand.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is providing the extra six-thousand doses on top of the ones provided by the state, along with funding for more personnel to give them out at the location -- which is being designated as a "community vaccination center."
The new personnel fleet brings in medical and non-medical professionals to assist with site operations, including over 200 Navy sailors from Virginia.
Linda from Watertown, who was in line to get her second vaccine shot at the center on Wednesday, said she is feeling optimistic about the vaccine.
"I hope that this will do it -- this will take care of Covid," she said. "I just hope everybody is going to stay safe though, you know? Make it work."
Some of the additional doses from the federal government will be set aside for a new mobile vaccination program that brings the shot to areas hit hard by the pandemic -- including parts of Boston, Chelsea and Revere.
Currently some 53 million people have been fully vaccinated against the virus in the United States, including over 1.3 million residents in Massachusetts.
