Judge Sets High Bail For Former Boston Attorney Gary Zerola

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bail has been set for a longtime defense attorney after facing another rape allegation. Gary Zerola has faced rape accusations dating back to the 1996, and this latest allegation is his fifth, stemming from an alleged incident in January.

Prosecutors say Zerola broke into the apartment of a woman he had attended a party with and sexually assaulted her as she slept.

Arguing for bail, Zerola's attorney said that Zerola had turned himself in, and that he was not a man of means.

Prosecutors said Zerola is not broke, referenced Zerola's thousand-dollar dinner bills and alluded to a video of him allegedly throwing money into a fire rather than tip a server.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge set bail at $125,000. If he makes bail, Zerola will need to wear a GPS tracking bracelet, and another bracelet that can detect alcohol.

Zerola was already facing rape charges for a different case dating back to 2016 in the same court.
