BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MassDOT said 142,000 travelers are expected to pass through Boston's Logan Airport Friday, said to be the busiest day of the year to travel by air.

Another 130,000 travelers are expected on Saturday, with 136,000 on Sunday. A total of over 400,000 are expected Saturday through Monday.

Three million people are flying nationwide Friday.

Sophia, leaving for Seattle Friday morning, told WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas she showed up bright and early. She knew it was going to be busy, but not this busy.

"Honestly, I've never seen a TSA pre-check line this long," she said. "But, Merry Christmas, right?"

Matt said he's flying to Virginia, where the weather's better—but not by much.

"Cold, but warmer than here," he said. "I think it's only like, 30, 35 ... what was it, 15 this morning? I felt it."

Things are expected to ramp back up again on December 26, the day after Christmas.

An earlier version of this story only gave the incoming traveler numbers; this article has been updated to include outgoing flights as well.
