LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Lynn YMCA is making everyone knows it.

The walls of the entrance to the building are decked with pink ribbons with the names of people impacted by cancer to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness month. Right in front of the wall is a table with ribbons and a pen for people to write down the name of a loved one and add it to the wall of ribbons.

Chris Tognazzini, the director of healthy living at the Lynn YMCA, came up with the idea for this tribute to help remind people that it's Breast Cancer Awareness month.

"I brought this idea to the Y about five years ago," Tognazzi told WBZ's Carl Stevens. "We wanted to make sure that everybody was more aware of the risks of breast cancer and really all cancers that affect everyone."

Tognazzini said he hopes this display will not only remind people about those impacted by cancer but also remind people to check for the warning signs of cancer.

"[We want to] make sure they are aware of the risk factors, doing self-exams, and going to their physicians, especially in a time after COVID when we weren't really going to the doctor as much," he said.

Several other YMCAs are doing similar tributes for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
