BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — COVID-19 appears to be on the retreat in Massachusetts, as the state posts numbers last seen at the beginning of the pandemic.
There were just 100 new, confirmed cases in the state's latest report. A look at the state's raw data showed that the last time numbers were that low was eleven months ago on June 30, 2020, when there were 73 new cases. The latest numbers are the fourth-lowest since the state started publishing statistics on COVID cases.
The state's estimated active cases also continue to be at their lowest since the state started publishing the metric, with the latest estimated active cases at just about 5,400.
Three more deaths were reported in the June 2 report, as well as 216 people in the hospital from COVID-19, a number that has also been consistently dropping. However, the number of people in the Intensive Care Unit has been roughly stable at around 75 since May 25.
The seven day average positivity rate was .69%, with about 25,000 tests reported yesterday.
