Mass. DPH Reports 47 More COVID-Related Deaths

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 2,744 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 189,518.

The Mass. DPH also reported an additional 47 deaths among confirmed cases, upping the state's total to 10,117 deaths among confirmed cases. There have also been 230 deaths among probable cases of the virus.

Massachusetts currently has the seventh highest COVID-related death toll in the U.S., behind Illinois, New Jersey, Florida, California, Texas, and New York, which has the highest death toll in the nation with more than 34,000 coronavirus deaths confirmed.

The state's seven-day average rate of positive tests has more than doubled over the past month, hitting 3.31 percent on Wednesday, its highest rate since mid-June.

There are currently 885 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across the Commonwealth. 173 people with coronavirus are receiving intensive care, and 72 COVID-patients are intubated.

According to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center, the U.S. is nearing 11.5 million cases, and more than 249,900 Americans have died of COVID-19 to date.
