BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new report released Monday by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health found that the vast majority of COVID cases among the vaccinated in Massachusetts have not ended in death or hospitalization. The department said 97% of vaccinated people who later got the virus in Massachusetts either were never hospitalized or didn't die.

Of those, 99.9% of vaccinated people under age 60 survived their breakthrough cases, with that number dropping slightly to 97% over age 60. The department said no breakthrough deaths have been reported in anyone under 30.

The data for that part of the study was collected between August 29 and December 4, 2021. The review also found that unvaccinated residents were 31 times more likely to catch the virus than their vaxxed counterparts.

The department said between the beginning of the state's vaccination campaign a year ago, and December 2 of this year, 2% of the state's vaccinated population was infected with COVID.
