BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In the middle of a possible heat wave, Massachusetts is staring down serious thunderstorms on Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for most of the state from Pittsfield to Boston ahead of the storms. The main risk from the storms is damaging wind gusts and severe downpours.

Forecasters said they couldn't rule out "brief tornadoes and large hail."

The storms come amid a potential heatwave in the later end of this week, with temperatures expected to reach the 90's for the second day in a row on Thursday, and feel like close to a hundred. A heat emergency has been declared in Boston.

A Heat Advisory has also been issued.
